Important Details:
Sue Mack (207) 869-1005, FCS Family Services Coordinator, will lead the steadfast group who will stay outside and awake for the entire 24 hours. All are welcome and encouraged to join her.

The numbers of families needing help with emergency heating fuel has climbed dramatically, and the FCS Food Pantry has seen an increase of 28% of use over the past two years. Due to LIHEAP budget cuts of 60% and the increasing cost of fuel, the goal for the Freeze Out this year is $10,000. Through the sponsorship of Martin’s Point and early donations, this goal is attainable. Good Shepherd Food Bank is offering a matching gift and there will be donation boxes in businesses and public buildings throughout the two towns preceding the event, as well as the Donation Can Sue will be holding on the February 18th and 19th.

We are now accepting donations of old cell phones, cell phone batteries and empty ink toner cartridges. We work with a company who gives FCS money in return for recycling the used equipment – up to $100 for a gently used cell phone. This program is beneficial for our whole community and the environment as it keeps toxic toner cartridges and cell phones out of the landfill!

Donations from individuals and groups are accepted in a basket just inside the front door at the FCC, on our Loading Dock @ 53 Depot Street 24/7 and at our Thrift Shop during business hours. Donors may request a charitable donations form for taxes purposes. FMI, call our office: (207) 865.3985.

TARP: The Tolerance And Respect Project
TARP is a committee within Freeport Community Services (FCS) that aims to promote civility, compassion, kindness and understanding within schools in Durham, Freeport and Pownal – and throughout the greater community.

WHAT’S THE HISTORY OF TARP?
The TARP committee formed in 2010 in response to community concern over the challenges facing our local youth such as peer-to-peer aggression, bullying and prejudice.

WHO IS ON THE TARP COMMITTEE?
TARP is a cross-section of concerned citizens from Durham, Pownal and Freeport: Students, Parents, Grandparents, Teachers, School Administrators, Police Officers, Librarians, Casco Bay “Y” staff, Port Teen Center, FCE staff and health professionals. The committee is open to anyone and welcoming to all.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF TARP?
To create a healthy, safe and respectful culture for all students, families and other citizens in our community by identifying areas of concern and supporting ways to address these issues; a culture that encourages awareness, discussion and change.

The movie will be followed by a panel discussion featuring student leaders and representatives from Hardy Girls Healthy Women and Boys to Men.

This event is Co‐Sponsored by Boys to Men, Freeport High School, Hardy Girls Healthy Women and Merriconeag Waldorf High School.

Our hope is that we can create a healthy and safe culture for our children by providing programming and support for students, families, teachers and school administrators.
