Community Food BackPack Program

Helping Kids in Need

Teachers and school staff across the state are finding that too often, Monday morning comes and they are forced to compete against hunger for the attention of their students. The Freeport Community BackPack Program provides children in need of food assistance with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food during weekends, throughout the school year.

Freeport Backpack Program

It is estimated that approximately 60 children in RSU5 are in need of weekend food support. The BackPack Committee is fundraising the full cost of the program up front and providing leadership and organization for program implementation. Food orders are placed through Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (MCHPP), a Satellite Partner with Good Shepherd Food Bank.

How you can help

Freeport backpack program

This program depends on community involvement to help children in need. Volunteers will pick-up, pack and deliver the food to the schools each week, and all monetary donations go directly to the purchase of food. Thank you for supporting this important program!
